GBC: "Personal" & "Creative" Models

The PERSONAL and CREATIVE models look nearly identical. They differ only in that the PERSONAL model has two heat settings (and uses 2 different thermostats under the unit's chassis).

Personal picBoth models use nearly identical molds, however, both have color variations for each model which does not connote one from the other. If you are close enough to a picture of either, you'll see the name printed on the front facing top half of the unit, otherwise, the only distinguishing difference is that the CREATIVE model does NOT have a switch on the rightside edge as shown here.Creative pic

The reason for mentioning this is that the PERSONAL model uses two thermostats controlled by the switch on the top half of the case.

Modifications to either unit simply involves changing a thermostat with a screwdriver. The connections to the thermostat are push on connectors as shown below.

thermostat picThe correct temperature range is 130ºC. DigiKey carries this identical looking thermostat HERE (part number 317-1550-ND). Price is about $8.

The PERSONAL model as we said above has two thermostats. After you have pulled the plug and opened the unit from the bottom, you'll see the two thermostats. The one to change out is the one with the BLACK base. The BROWN unit is the lower temperature of the two thermostat. Leave the BROWN one alone. Before closing up either model, make sure wires are routed the same way when the unit was first opened. The heater plates get very hot and a mis-routed wire could get its insulation melted! If you don't feel comfortable or experienced in doing this mod... don't do it!

BOTH UNITS USE A "HOT" CHASSIS!DO NOT PLUG THE LAMINATOR IN UNLESS THE COVER IS PUT BACK IN PLACE!

When ready for use, always give the unit a solid 20 minutes to fully heat-soad the rollers before use. That's every time it's turned on. Disregard the "Ready" light as we need fully heated rollers. During this pre-heat, you'll see the "Ready" light cycle several times.
